OK, so you’ve got a boyfriend and you don’t know what to get him for his birthday, Christmas or just to say you love him. I’m a guy. I can help! 
Firstly, lets analyse the above sentence and realise that there are different gifts for different occasions. If the gift is for no particular anniversary but just a spontaneous present to say you love him, it needs to be different to a birthday or Christmas gift. Even though guys are generally not particularly romantic, we do like being reminded that we’re loved and the best gift for that situation is something heartfelt and probably handmade such as a personal note or card. If you’re into dramatic gestures, whisk him away for a romantic picnic or, depending on your budget, a short holiday.
Having got the romantic side of the equation done (phew!), let’s be more practical. You’re probably buying for a birthday or Christmas present and want to know what a guy would like best. Well, I can’t talk for your specific boyfriend, but most of us like sports and gadgets.
